Screening Information

Do you have a 3-5 year old (pre-kindergarten) child?  Do you reside in the Blue Springs School District?  

Referral Screenings:

Referral screenings are for children ages 3-5 whose parents have developmental concerns.  These screenings are held throughout the school year.  

Developmental Screenings:

Developmental screenings are for children ages 3 and 4 for parents to receive an overview of their child's development.  These screenings  are held in October and March. 

Appointments are required for all screenings, call 816-874-3680 and ask to speak with a Parent Educator.

Welcome Back PAT Families

Thank you for your interest in the Parents As Teachers program provided through the Blue Springs School District.  Parents As Teachers is a voluntary program for families based on the belief that parents are the child’s first and most influential teachers.  It is our goal to assist you in giving your child the best possible start in life.

All families are eligible to receive the following services:

  • Free annual screening

    Children 4 months to 35 months are screened in the home by the parent educator, and 3-4 year olds (not going to kindergarten in the fall) are offered a screening in October or February.

  • Group Connections

    Admission to all of our monthly gatherings for children birth-prekindergarten.  Invitations sent via email and website.

  • Success By 6 Resource Center

    Free use of our lending library and playroom funded by United Way.  SB6 is open Tuesdays 9:30-3:30 when school is in session.

  • Parent Connect Newsletter

Access to our online newsletter published three times a year.

September 26, Art Studio, BS South MCPL Library

Join PAT at the MCPL South Branch Library as we have an art free-for-all!  We’ll have glitter, stickers, colored pencils, markers, and other are supplies that kids of all ages can use to make their next masterpiece.

October 2 and 3,  Scholastic Book Fair, LTEC

Did you know reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year.  Continuing this practice will help your child become a student who has developed a stronger vocabulary.  In addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, math, science, and history!  Think ahead and make a difference.

 Mark your calendar to join Liggett Trail for celebration of reading!

Book Fair is Wednesday, October 2nd 4:30-6:30 and Thursday, October 3rd 9:00-4:30.

 October 11 and 18, Developmental Screenings, LTEC

3 Year Olds-Screenings will be held on Friday, October 11th.  An appointment is required and will be made available from 8:30-3:15.

4 Year Olds-Screenings will be held on Friday, October 18th from 8:30-3:15.  These screenings are for children with birthdays between August 1, 2015-October 18, 2015.  An appointment is required.

We are now taking appointments for both screening dates.  Call 816-874-3680.

All screenings will take place at Liggett Trail Education Center.

These screenings are intended for children who have not already been screened in the home or through a referral screening this fall.

 November 19, Out of This World, LTEC

Our big fall event is coming soon!  On Tuesday, November 19th at 6:00 pm we will explore space together as we climb aboard the spaceship.  We will go to the moon!  Hurry and get ready because we will be blasting off soon!  Put on your helmet and buckle up tight because we are ready to countdown!  This event will be at Liggett Trail Education Center.

In the Community

Pumpkin Yoga

Saturday, October 19, 2019 11:00-12:00

Kids will celebrate the celebrate the change of seasons by learning pumpkin and other autumn poses.  They will move, play games, listen to stories, and relax to the quiet thoughts of falling leaves.

Early childhood games, books, and other materials are available for use on-site or via checkout at out SB6 Resource Center.  SB6 is open on Tuesdays from 9:30-3:30 pm at the Paul Consiglio Wellness Center, 1501 NW Jefferson Blue Springs.  Contact Patty Mohn for more information, 816-308-6540.
