Director's Message

Headshot of LTEC director

Welcome to Liggett Trail Education Center

My name is Dr. Anwander, and I am honored to serve in my fourth year at Liggett Trail Education Center, and my first year as the Director for Early Childhood and Special Services. I have spent all 19 years of my career in the Blue Springs School District—first as a high school science teacher, then as a Middle School Assistant Principal and Activities Director, and later as a High School Assistant Principal. These experiences have shaped my commitment to building strong relationships, supporting families, and ensuring every child receives the high quality early learning opportunities they deserve.

Liggett Trail is home to a collection of outstanding programs designed to support children from birth through age 21:

Early Childhood Special Education – A Missouri School Board Early Childhood Program of the Year for large districts, serving children ages 3–5 with developmental delays or disabilities.

BSSD PreK – A free preschool program for eligible students, focused on strengthening cognitive and social emotional development.

Parents As Teachers – A National Blue Ribbon Affiliate supporting parents and early learners through home visits, screenings, and family engagement.

Cub Care – A license exempt early childhood center serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years, also supporting Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

Multi Disabled Program – Services for students with multiple disabilities through age 21, providing individualized pathways for growth.
We are a dedicated team within an exceptional school district—humbled, grateful, and excited to serve our community. Wishing you an AWESOME school year ahead.
